Prescott, Arizona (November 13th, 2009) – Bradley Beauchamp, leading candidate in a Republican primary for Arizona’s first congressional district, participated in a debate Friday night against his two primary opponents, former Mesa legislator Rusty Bowers and dentist Paul Gosar. The debate not only focused on issues that would be important to the residents in CD-1, but also gave attention to the issues coming out of Washington, including healthcare and states’ rights. Moderating the event was Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett. Beauchamp, an attorney, was able to use his rich constitutional knowledge to make arguments that both impressed the crowd and stymied his opponents. Those in attendance were able to see clear differences among the three candidates, with Beauchamp showing he was the candidate who not only knew the law, but knew how to defend the rights of all Americans with the Constitution.
“Bradley was very smart on the issues,” said one man in attendance. “He didn’t seem rehearsed or have to go to notes. When it came to laws, he knew exactly what Secretary of State Ken Bennett was talking about and went right into his answers. It was fun to see.”
Turns out, the majority of the crowd agreed with those sentiments. Following the two-hour debate, the audience was asked to pick the name of the candidate they felt won the debate and who has the best chance of defeating Representative Ann Kirkpatrick in 2010. The results gave Beauchamp 67% of the vote, with Bowers only netting 23%. Paul Gosar, who came fast out of the gate just a couple of months ago, saw his support wane, with only 9% of the people saying he was the candidate to take on Kirkpatrick.
The Bradley Beauchamp for Congress campaign moved forward with the momentum that strong polling numbers often provide. Mr. Beauchamp was excited, but not surprised, by the results of Friday’s event.
"I live and work in the district, and know exactly what is important to the citizens of CD-1. Just as importantly, I know the Constitution, and know how to defend the rights of those I call my friends and neighbors."
