Defending the American Dream

This country was established on the principles of hard work and self reliance.  With those values, every day people have created what is now the American Dream. What makes the United States the envy of the world is the opportunity everyone has to be as successful as they want to be.  America is the Land of Opportunity, not the Land of Entitlement.  The American Dream doesn’t guarantee individuals the right to be successful; it guarantees individuals the opportunity to be prosperous.

The American Dream is in danger due to the overwhelming number of entitlement programs designed to make the citizens dependent on the government.  Entitlement programs, such as socialized medicine, are the biggest threat to the American Dream.  I believe what made America great was the belief that the government would provide the opportunity; the rest was left to the resolve of the people.
