I was the first candidate to sign the “Repeal It” pledge and I will work to make sure that the current healthcare bill is defunded and repealed. Healthcare is a critical issue facing our country and it needs to be reformed in a non-partisan fashion that will work for all Americans. The United States government cannot compel the citizens of the United States to purchase their product. The government has bankrupted the Post Office, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Amtrak, Medicare, and Medicaid and now wants the opportunity to control another 1/6th of the American economy by promoting government healthcare.
The United States government as already socialized 30% of what used to be the private sector; government healthcare would give the government control of 48% of the private sector. It is unrealistic to think the government can reduce funding in Medicare by $500 billion, add tens of millions to the government healthcare system and somehow make it profitable. America’s senior citizens bought into the Medicare promise made by their government and they deserve to have that contract honored, not watch the quality of their healthcare diminish in the name of the largest entitlement program ever created. Should socialized medicine pass, Americans can expect a severe deterioration in the level of healthcare provided to them, just as we’ve seen in Canada and the United Kingdom.
