Issues

I believe that the United States should have a strong national defense, but in order to provide for national security, we must first secure our borders.  Article IV, Section IV of the United States Constitution indicates it is the duty of the federal government to protect the states from invasion. 

As a life member of the NRA I am a loyal supporter of the 2nd Amendment and will defend the right of every American to keep and bear arms.  The 2nd Amendment needs no interpretation; the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, period.

I have spent the majority of my adult life studying, teaching and defending the United States Constitution.  There is no amendment more important to the preservation of a free state than the 10th Amendment.  The United States Constitution limits the power of the federal government and the 10th Amendment empowers the individual states where the Constitution is silent.  The 10th Amendment should be applied by the individual states more frequently than it has in the past.

I was the first candidate to sign the “Repeal It” pledge and I will work to make sure that the current healthcare bill is defunded and repealed.

Government spending is out-of-control, as a member of Congress I will work to reign in the tax and spend mentality by supporting a Balanced Budget Amendment. I have signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge supporting no more raising taxes on the American people. I will work tirelessly to decrease our deficit and to eliminate the entitlement spending spree.

This country was established on the principles of hard work and self reliance.  With those values, every day people have created what is now the American Dream. What makes the United States the envy of the world is the opportunity everyone has to be as successful as they want to be.  America is the Land of Opportunity, not the Land of Entitlement.  The American Dream doesn’t guarantee individuals the right to be successful; it guarantees individuals the opportunity to be prosperous.

Small business is the lifeblood of the American economy.  I am a small business owner, and know what it is to sign the front side of paychecks.  In Congress, I will make sure that all Americans are given the freedom and ability to grow their business on their terms.  I will make sure that taxes do not hinder growth, and I will fight to make sure the government stays out of the way of small business.  There is not a single stimulus package the government can put together which can beat out simple, American hard work.

I believe strongly in the right to life.  If you can’t guarantee the right of a child to be born then guaranteeing that same child the right to bear arms seems impossible.  I am proud to stand with you as a protector of all life. Working together, we will make the United States a beacon for freedom and the sanctity of life.

Having domestic control of energy is a key to our economy and security. The United States currently has enough resources to be energy self-sufficient and should strive to end our dependence on foreign oil.
